Legalities of getting married in Mallorca

Whatever your religion, you and your partner would have to register your marriage (have civil ceremony) in the place that you reside (ie your local UK or Ireland registry office) you would then have your paperwork to be able to have a ceremony here in Mallorca. You can have a full or short ceremony in a Spanish church or in any type of outside setting - whether or not either of you have/or have not been divorced. The only time this is different is if one of you have owned a property in your own name here for 2 years or more or are a resident.

Even Spanish couples getting married here in Mallorca have to register their marriage at their local town hall first and then have a church ceremony – it is a different system to that of the UK. If you are both not a resident of Mallorca then you have to do this where you reside .ie UK or Ireland. Most couples have a no fuss registry in casual clothes - do not tell their family or friends -and ask that the rings are not blessed. This is done here in the full ceremony.
